Last Months Meeting Highlights:

• County Commissioners Recognize Council: On Feb 26, Benton County Commissioners recognized the MRWC as the central council to deal with the concerns of the watershed. MRWC serves as a hub for subbasin groups throughout the watershed, for identifying issues, concerns and projects to improve the quality of the Marys River Watershed. Subbasin groups are encouraged to work together under the umbrella of the council to develop a watershed-wide assessment and action plan.

• Education Committee to Form: There was sufficient interest to begin the formation of an Education Committee for the MRWC. This committee would develop the community outreach and educational program for the MRWC, as well as help provide short educational programs for council meetings. • Council to become Cascade Pacific RC&D member: The council decided by consensus (with a quorum present) to become a member of the CPRC&D in order to be able to use the services of Karen Stroehmeyer for identifying funding opportunities.

• Steering Committee updates: Two new members of the Steering Committee were chosen: Nancy Sieglitz, Director of the Corvallis Environmental Center and Chuck Lane, landowner from Blodgett. Steering Committee also recommended that the Steering Committee be no larger than 13 members at any given time. The council agreed by consensus.

• Officer Election Ballots passed out: Ballots were distributed containing the nominated officers for the MRWC. Ballots will be collected and tallied at the April 1 meeting. Those of you not present at the March 4 meeting, but who would still like to vote, there will be ballots available for you at the April 1 meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting but would still like to vote (and are currently a member in good standing) please call Sandra Coveny at 929-5768 or send an email to sandrac@peak.org

• Memorandum of Agreement between MRWC and City of Philomath Signed: The MRWC agreed to sign onto as a supporter of the City of Philomath's wetlands inventory project. Any comments or questions regarding the city's plan to inventory wetlands and develop a management strategy should be directed to Randy Kugler, City Manager at 929-6148. MRWC will receive notices of public meetings and will announce these whenever possible. MRWC members are encouraged to participate in this process.
