7:20	Pasty Miller: Request of council members "In May the citizens of Benton County passed the local option tax levy to improve public safety, public health, and maintain currently county services by a 60% yes vote. However, the levy could not be enacted because 50% of the registered voters did not cast ballots. With the endorsement of a citizens advisory committee, the Benton County Commissioners are resubmitting the same levy to the voters in November. I would like to request that the Mary's Watershed Council endorse Measure 02-58 at your next meeting on September 2nd. I will be at your September meeting to answer questions you may have about the levy". Patsy Miller, Benton County Commissioner

7:45	Flaxen Conway: Community Outreach Specialist/Extension Agent, OSU - Flaxen and others have developed a Watershed Stewardship Learning Guide and course modules for land owners. Both the book and course cover a variety of information, from basic ecology to specific stream monitoring techniques. Flaxen will describe in more detail exactly what these entail.

Last Months Meeting Highlights:

• Speaker: Bob Madar gave a presentation on projects his students at Crescent Valley High School have been working on. Project results by students working at Brook Lane and Mulkey Creek were presented. Bob argued for greater integration of student learning efforts with the general community.

• A conservation plan for the Willamette River watershed will be put together over the next few months. A draft of the plan must be completed by March. More information will become available in the next few months, but interested persons could contact Jay Nicholas, from the Governor's salmon plan. (He will be present at the September 2 meeting)

• Joanne Taylor presented arguments against a road development project, which has been proposed to connect Borden St. and Airport Rd, and will cross Muddy Creek. A meeting with the Benton County Board of Commissioners is scheduled for August 27, 1998 at 9:30 a.m. to be held in the basement of the Benton Hotel (408 SW Monroe,Corvallis).

• Starker Forests has set up 7 demonstration plots in order to show potential impacts of measure 64 on forest management. Anyone interested is welcome to come visit the plots.

• Cascade Pacific RC&D has Willamette Initiative funds available for demonstration projects. Please submit proposals. For details contact Jenny Ayotte at Cascade Pacific RC&D 757-4807

• The recent listing of Coastal Coho has prevented industry funding of GWEB activities by law. Currently there is an $8 billion shortfall. The GWEB meeting to review watershed proposals has been postponed to November, since the status of funding is not clear. The MRWC Coordinators funding is uncertain. Present contract expires October 31.
