Last Months Meeting Highlights:

Barb Ellis presented the result of her study titled: Lateral Channel Migration and Bank erosion along the Marys River and Selected Tributaries. If you would like to see the study please contact Sandra Coveny 758-7597 or sandrac@peak.org. The study will also be available for viewing at the Philomath and Corvallis public libraries.

As some of you know, Dr. Neva Hassenien's December talk generated much controversy. Some members of the Steering Committee felt that the behavior of some audience members was disrespectful. As a result, it was suggested by Mark Taratoot, Tony Cheng and others that there be some sort of speaker protocol for controversial speakers, so they at least get to fully air their points of view before being challenged. This proposal resulted in a lengthy discussion. It was the feeling of some members that the council should not host controversial speakers at all. Others felt that diversity of speakers was very important for exposing/educating council members to all viewpoints regarding the watershed. It is very important that other members weigh in on this discussion.

If you have opinions regarding this matter, please send them via email to sandrac@peak.org or U.S. mail to Sandra Coveny, MRWC Coordinator PO BOX 1041 Corvallis, OR 97339, or share them at the next council meeting. All letters will be shared with the council unless otherwise specified.
