Marys River Watershed Council
MRWC MEETING

Meeting Notes: November 6, 2002

At the November council meeting we went through a facilitated council self-evaluation process. The summaries of items we need to continue discussion on are listed below. More detailed notes will mailed out when we complete the process. We will continue this process for months to come, until we have sufficient information to incorporate into our Long Term Action Plan.

Top 8 Priority Concerns resulting from Council Self Evaluation (not in order of priority)

  1. Do we share a common vision and purpose?
  2. Need to maintain efforts to increase membership and retain/restore diversity
  3. Need to strike balance between being relevant, and accommodating all players
  4. Discuss population issues as they affect the watershed (Willamette valley human population slated to double the over coming 5 decades)
  5. Develop an anticipation/process for addressing “hot topics” (anticipate hot topics and be proactive about educational panels and balanced discussions)
  6. Discuss advocacy vs. forum – make a clear and conscious decision regarding council’s role.
  7. Be more involved with projects and activities (members) increase overall involvement community-wide
  8. Need to develop a clear vision in instances where (if) council decides to advocate.
