The meeting, held on May 5, 2005, at the EPA building in Corvallis, from 10am to noon, was attended by Steve Hanson from DEQ and Monica (from Willamette River Keepers), Thom Whittier, Sandra Coveny, Amy Schoener and Curt Seeliger. Discussion centered around the Volunteer Monitoring Program which DEQ was reviewing. We discussed how to enter data on the DEQ volunteer monitoring website (resources page), and explored possible future projects for this committee such as a hydrological study of the watershed, infrared imagery to determine summer water use, and macroinvertebrate analysis to indicate water quality, and possible sources of funding for them. DEQ considers macroinvertebrates and predictive models that relate to them as a hot topic for assessment reference sites and investigation We also wondered whether there is a management strategy listed for instream flow in the TMDL's being developed for our region. Some equipment ( a Hach DO kit and 8 used Vemco temperature dataloggers) were returned to DEQ and we discussed the central location of the remaining equipment and its usefulness. Monica indicated that Willamete River Keepers would like to formalize a relationship with our watershed council. Steve also asked what DEQ could do for the Watershed Council. Suggestions followed.
