The Outreach and Education project to create a
display is on hold until we hire someone to replace Todd Kesterson. The council approved a subcommittee to
conduct the interview, definition and hiring. The display will show the
watershed, who we are, and what kinds of things we do. If possible, Sandra
would additionally like to have this person produce a brochure using the same
material as is in the poster and to design a series of logo options for the
council to choose from.
- Sandra presented the council with a list of volunteer opportunities.
If you are interested in volunteering to help with the work of the council
call or email Sandra for the list at 758-7597 or mrwc@peak.org

amount of data may be needed to remove the Mary's River from listing.
7:55 Steering Committee Report
- The steering committee met on May 30 and discussed a long term
plan for the watershed council.
8:00 MOA
- The Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) between the Mary's River

8:05 Gene Wooden (Willamette Industries)
·
Mr. Wooden described the road inventory and
culvert replacement activities he engages in for the Willamette Industries. The
purpose of the road inventory is to eliminate surface runoff entering the
streams. Mr. Wooden described the factors determining how the roads impact on
the stream. These include the local terrain, the road angle, methods used to
dispose of fill when the road was built, and the type of road surface. Culverts
need to be large enough to withstand the flow rate of a 100 year flood. Mr.
Wooden described several factors influencing fish passage through culverts
including: the slope of the pipe, pipe baffling, the substrate in the pipe, and
the placement of logs below the culvert.
